As you have undoubtedly noticed, it is not uncommon to receive emails from unknown companies/senders with subject lines such as “Online Pharmacy – Safe, Secure, Discreet” or “Buy Viagra Online”.  In most cases, emails that are sent to your account without your consent are loosely called SPAM or UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email).  Imagen does not send these emails to you directly.  They are predominantly sent by companies who target thousands of customers at a time, in most cases quite randomly.

Why do I get so much of this junk?

You may have also noticed that the amount of SPAM and UCE that is sent to your account has increased dramatically in the recent months.  This is a phenomenon which other ISPs and their subscribers have noticed and the Internet community as a whole has been forced to step up their efforts to combat this nuisance.

What can I do about it?

The systems team at Imagen Communications has deployed a system to minimize SPAM and UCE.  The system is called MailGuard.

 What is MailGuard?

MailGuard is the SPAM and UCE protection service offered by Imagen Communications.  It is offered at two service levels:

 MailGuard Basic:  FREE

MailGuard Plus:  $5/month for each mailbox

How does MailGuard work?

  • Email messages which the server was able to identify as SPAM or UCE will be “held” for a period of 14 days. You will NOT receive them when you check mail, but they will be stored on the server as a precaution.

After 14 days these messages WILL BE DELETED.

  • At any time you can make a request to have the system “dump” the blocked email into your Imagen mailbox by clicking on the following link:

Retrieve Blocked Email

  • You can upgrade to MailGuard Plus, at a monthly cost of $5.00 plus taxes.MailGuard Plus gives you the ability to:

– Customize your SPAM filter settings to suit your taste and needs

– View any blocked mail for up to 14 days

– Selectively “release” any messages in the SPAM filter

Note that MailGuard Plus is sold in whole months only, and the monthly service fee is non-refundable (no exceptions).

 What about my Mailing Lists?

If you subscribe to one or more Mailing Lists, we strongly advise that you either Opt Out or Upgrade to MailGuard Plus:

  • Opt Out
  • Upgrade to MailGuard Plus
  • Most mailing list emails will be incorrectly flagged as SPAM or UCE by the MailGuard system!

I opted out of MailGuard Basic.  How do I get it back?

Customers who opt-out of this program will be permitted to opt back in at any time.  A one-time service fee of $25/mailbox is applicable for each re-activation of MailGuard.

I have MailGuard on my mailbox, but I still get SPAM and UCE.  What gives?

Imagen Communications has customized the filtering technology used on their system to assure that MailGuard is blocking only legitimate SPAM and UCE messages.  As such, you may find that some SPAM and UCE is undetected by the MailGuard system.  In order to ensure that legitimate email is not mistakenly identified as SPAM, the MailGuard filters and detection devices have been set to their optimal configuration.

Customers may “tweak” these settings for their personal email preferences by signing up for MailGuard Plus at any time.
